Yoga Journal wins three Maggie Awards, including Best Health and Fitness Magazine

Yoga Journal (www.yogajournal.com), the country's premier yoga magazine, has just won the two top Maggie Awards for Best Health and Fitness Magazine. The awards, given by the Western Publications Association, reflect excellence in magazine publishing west of the Mississippi. The magazine also won a third award for Best Editorial Photo, for a November 2002 photo by David Martinez.

Says Kathryn Arnold, editorial director of Yoga Journal: "We are honored to be named Best Health and Fitness Magazine. In the last few years, we've worked hard to bring our readers the best writing and most trusted information on yoga. We're delighted that the Western Publications Association has recognized our achievement."

Other recent Yoga Journal awards include two consecutive Folio Editorial Excellence Awards (in 2001 and 2002) for Best Health and Fitness Magazine in the country, and two consecutive Circulation Excellence Awards for outstanding circulation growth. Since 1998, the paid circulation of the magazine has more than tripled--from 90,000 to 300,000--while in the past year alone, newsstand sales increased by 18% and subscriptions increased by 22%.

This year's three Maggie Awards bring the total number of Maggie Award wins to six. The other three include Most Improved Consumer Publication (2001); Best Profile for its March/April 2000 feature "Yoga's Bad Boy: Bikram Choudhury"; and Best Online Publication.
