Resort partners with Snowsports Industry America to introduce “Winter Feels Good” program

Skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing are all great ways for folks to burn off a few extra "holiday" pounds during the long Inland Northwest winter. And, a new program, “Winter Feels Good”, from Schweitzer Mountain Resort and Snowsports Industry America has all the facts, figures, and tips to help everyone make the most out of their winter excursions.

“Moderate downhill skiing alone burns anywhere from around 350 to 500 calories an hour,” said Tom Kingsland, Director of Schweitzer’s Mountain Learning Center. “And cross-country and telemark skiing work you even more. Plus, skiing and snowboarding are great ways to strengthen your leg and abdominal muscles, as well as improve your overall balance and flexibility. Best of all, not only are winter sports good for you— they’re a blast. Once you get started, you’re hooked—and instead of fighting off the winter doldrums, you begin really looking forward to the season.”

Schweitzer and SIA offer plenty information for anyone interested in learning more about the health and fitness benefits of snowsports. And, both organizations stress the ease of entry into winter sports. At Schweitzer, the coaches at the Mountain Learning Center can recommend programs and specialty clinics for any person regardless of ability, fitness level, or age.

“There’s never been more information available for people who are considering learning to ski or snowboard, or those who’ve been away from the hill for a while,” said Mr. Kingsland. “We’ve posted a ton of material on our Website, and by partnering with SIA, we’re able to supplement our knowledge with detailed material from fitness, nutrition, and health experts.”
