June 16, 2004 By: Bronwyn Millard Hearty the Heart Dares Cyclists to 'Hoot 4 Ur Heart!' during National Bike WeekLarger than life Hearty the Heart, the heart-shaped BHF mascot, cycled into Manchester’s Albert Square last week to challenge people to get on their bikes and sign up for this year’s charity ride – Hoot 4 Ur Heart! - through the city centre. The launch of National Bike Week in Manchester will see cyclists from all over the North West converge on Albert Square in fancy dress. They will attach big chrome hooters to their bikes before setting off through the streets of Manchester, hooting their hooters for the BHF, as they make their way to the On Yer Bike Cycling Carnival and Craft Fair at New Cathedral Gardens. On Yer Bike promises a great day out for all the family. With 6ft seagulls swooping in on the city centre, the event will also feature cycling performances by BMX World Champion Phil Dolan, street theatre and musical entertainment. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy Manchester Markets’ unique craft fair and to gain information about cycling, health and local beauty spot destinations. Remember the days, way back in the seventies, when Christmas wasn’t Christmas unless Santa had left you a Chopper bike? Well, Hearty’s Chopper – the very bike he rode into Manchester last week – is up for grabs as first prize in a free raffle open to everyone attending the On Yer Bike Cycling Carnival. He is donating his most treasured possession as his special contribution to National Bike Week in Manchester. You could say he’s all heart! Hearty said: Cycling is fun and a great way of boosting health and fitness. Apart from raising money for an extremely worthwhile cause, Hoot 4 Ur Heart! is a wonderful opportunity for those dusting off their bikes, perhaps after a long break, to become re-acquainted with the pleasures and benefits of cycling.
