GNC’s Total Lean Extends Benefits of Exercise

General Nutrition Centers, Inc., the nation’s largest specialty retailer of nutritional supplements, today announced completion of a clinical study designed to measure the impact of their Total Lean diet product on energy expenditure following exercise. The study results indicate that Total Lean increases post workout calorie burning by up to 60% as measured during the first hour after the workout.

In the study, participants exercised on a treadmill on two occasions. On one occasion they took Total Lean before exercise and on the second occasion they took a placebo.

The study was double blind and therefore neither the participants nor the scientists knew what the participants were taking or what order it was taken.

When scientists measured the amount of calories burned during the first hour post exercise, they found that participants burned up to 60% more calories while on Total Lean compared to when they took the placebo.

We view this as a breakthrough in sports and diet supplementation, said Margaret Peet, Senior Vice President and National Sales Director for GNC.

After exercise, your body continues to burn calories. This research proves that Total Lean provides a major boost to the post-exercise calorie burning.

This is one reason why Total Lean has become the top selling weight management program at GNC. Customers have already experienced the benefits of Total Lean as part of a diet and exercise program.

Total Lean is an ephedra-free product that increases metabolism and boosts energy. Previous clinical work has proven the thermogenic properties of Total Lean’s innovative formulation.

Included with the product is a meal and exercise plan that GNC developed in cooperation with registered dietitians and health professionals. The meal plan provides an average of 1,500 calories per day, with 40% of calories from carbohydrates and 30% of calories from protein and fat.

Customers can also visit www.gnc.com where they can use The Total Lean Fitness Planner, an easy to use tool to help track meals, workouts, weight and more.

Proper nutrition and exercise are keys to success in any weight management program, said Dr. Susan Trimbo, Senior Vice President of scientific affairs at GNC. We strive to offer quality products such as Total Lean that effectively complement the efforts of customers interested in weight management.
